The Mile High City

Two weeks ago, I had a lot of firsts. First time seeing the Rocky Mountains. First time being in Colorado. First time sprinting barefoot through an airport.

I headed west (the furthest west I’ve ever been!) to Denver, Colorado with Logan. We visited some of his college friends and attended a wedding for some Raleigh transplants.

Colorado touches seven states: Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah.

Actually, I’m not sure if Arizona counts since they touch at just one point. Does that count??? Also, Oklahoma is kinda sneaky, like Georgia.

Can we talk about the mountains? It was so bizarre to me how HUGE they are. The mountains seem to just appear all of the sudden, straight from flat land to huge, snow-covered mountains. I’d never seen anything like that (sorry, North Carolina, but ours just don’t compare).

No one told me about the altitude. With a direct flight from RDU to Denver, we only had about 3 hours to adjust from 350 feet above sea level to a mile above sea level! This quick change can lead to dehydration, headaches, stomach issues, etc.

My advice to future Denver-goers: drink water.

We had an absolute blast in Colorado. I loved the combination of the city feel with the gorgeous mountain backdrop. It was unlike anywhere I’ve ever been! I loved the time spent with Nebraskan friends and the Summit Denver folks.

My only regret is that I forgot to visit the Molly Brown House Museum. Oh well, there’s always next time.

I almost forgot!! Yes, I sprinted barefoot through an airport. I didn’t think this was possible (no, not me sprinting!), but we arrived at the airport at 6:30 and miraculously made it on our 6:55 flight. I wish we had a video of those 25 minutes, but we do have these dejected-looking photos below from when we were riding the tram and thought we missed our flight.
